We all may suffer loss of some kind or another. Is it any different today? Absolutely not! Anybody that is born again is a part of His royal priesthood (just like Aaron):īut ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light (1 Peter 2:9). The Law had to be given and had to be taught.

But the work of the Lord had to continue. I don't believe for one moment that God did not have compassion for Aaron and his loss. When I reflect on this story, I find it interesting that God had not spoken one word of condolence for Aaron about the death of his sons. These two verses are also the beginning of the instructions for the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16:1-34). This takes us to Chapter 16 where the subject of Nadab's and Abihu's death is raised again:Īnd the Lord spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the Lord, and died And the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat (Leviticus 16:1-2). Then from Leviticus 10:8 - 15:31, the Lord gave both Aaron and Moses Laws to follow. And they did according to the word of Moses (Leviticus 10:7).

Moses told Aaron not to grieve (Leviticus 10:6) as he had an anointing, he had work to do:Īnd ye shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: for the anointing oil of the Lord is upon you.

Nadab and Abihu did not obey God and suffered the consequences because they did not respect His holiness and give Him the glory in their offering.
